Darwin Jihen
The Animal Liberation Alliance, an eco-terrorist organization, rescues a pregnant chimpanzee from an animal testing lab only for it to give birth to a half-human, half-chimpanzee “humanzee” named Charlie! Fifteen years later, Charlie’s human foster parents are finally ready to send him to a normal high school, where he makes his first friend: a human girl named Lucy. In the meantime, however, the ALA’s stance has become ever more extreme, and now they’re here to drag Charlie into their terrorist plot.
L'Alliance pour la libération animale (ALA), une organisation écoterroriste, sauve une femelle chimpanzé enceinte d'un laboratoire d'expérimentation animale. Celle-ci donne naissance à un hybride mi-humain, mi-chimpanzé, nommé Charlie ! This was not what I was expecting, but it ended up being interesting. The exploration into what it means to be different makes for an interesting premise, allowing the show to touch on themes of discrimination and acceptance. There is also a late subplot about extremism, and how far is acceptable to go for your principles. An interesting watch, but likely too laden down with philosophical depth for most people.

Setting it in America was a smart choice. Dressing the MC up in the peter parker jeans and hoodie from the 2000 movie was a good touch for showing off his athletic prowess. The female protagonist being named Lucy is a deep cut, being the name of the first "missing link" skeleton found in Africa. The B-plot of militant animal lovers is ridiculous on its face though.

I like the protagonists, but the antagonists mostly seem to be pretty strident and one dimensional.

Episode one pretty well maps out where this story is going. This is set in a fictional America which has no resemblance to current or past. It does cover some deep questions with gene splicing and where technology can lead us.
