Shuhei Amamiya, who transfers to Moriwaki Elementary filled with hope and ambition about his new life. But it doesn't take long before he gets picked on by the class bullies, and gets involved in a dare to play the mysterious piano in the forest, leading to his meeting an enigmatic child that goes by the name of Kai Ichinose, who seems to be the only one capable of getting sound out of the thought-to-be broken piano. His ability earns him the respect of Shuhei and his music teacher, former master pianist Sosuke Ajino. At first Kai is resistant to refining his art but after hearing Sosuke play a Chopin piece he just can't seem to play by himself, he relents.

Shuhei Amamiya, qui est transféré à l'école élémentaire Moriwaki, rempli d'espoir et d'ambition pour sa nouvelle vie. Mais il ne tarde pas à se faire piéger par les bourreaux de la classe, et s'implique dans un défi de jouer le piano mystérieux dans la forêt, menant à sa rencontre un enfant énigmatique qui s'appelle Kai Ichinose, qui semble être le seul capable d'obtenir le son du piano cassé par la pensée. Sa capacité lui a valu le respect de Shuhei et de son professeur de musique, l'ancien maître pianiste Sosuke Ajino. Au début, Kai est réticent à affiner son art, mais après avoir entendu Sosuke jouer une pièce de Chopin, il n'arrive pas à jouer tout seul, il cède.
