So basically an alternate reality Sky Witches with more magic, less fanservice, and way more EVIIIIILLLLLLLL *thunderstrike**horse neighing*. Yeah, guess I can dig it.
The series certainly reels you in with a quick hook with a unique backstory. It takes a very realistic approach to the typical mahou shoujo genre and touches on quite a few different fan bases. It certainly sympathizes with a more sociopath like mc which will be interesting to see if the character grows into a good mc or will continue the shock value of their natural evil intents.
I will start off by saying this was not to my personal taste, so that may taint my review.
The good parts to this is that the initial premise was interesting. Normally, the "person in a strange world" angle has the main character being someone set up to be a great hero to their new world. While on the surface, Tanya seems to be a hero, the reality is very different. Again, this is a change from the teenage boy who gets set up o be the next MMORPG hero type of setup.
What I didn't like about it was pretty much everything else. The world war style of battle with magic added in was definitely not to my taste, coupled with the young girl in charge of a military unit.
It has some interesting elements, but not enough to hold my attention.
apparently it has nothing to with Strike Witches. this in spite of using a simular magic system. anyways, seems to be fairly good. might make this years short list for me.
just saw the 2nd episode. real game-changer. definitely a short-lister. no spoilers, but don't miss the 1st TWO episodes.
With a large enough supply of Magical Girls, you'll probably have some who are evil (or evil, or even EVIL); World War One does seem like a pretty good place to put them.
War and magic seems to running theme of late. This one is twisted tale with the heart of a twisted heart of little girl who has let the war turn her heart into a monster but what happens after the war is over.
